Dr. Mohamed Elkhatib

Mohamed El-Khatib is an architect and urban designer with a Master’s degree in Environmental and Urban Planning from Cairo University (1994). He is the founder and CEO of the Environmental Design Group (est. 1997), a consultancy specializing in architecture, sustainable urban development and heritage conservation. El-Khatib has led the design and implementation of numerous revitalization projects in historic Cairo, including Al-Mowardi, Magra El-Oyoun, Al-Fustat, and the ongoing Historic Cairo Urban Regeneration Project. He was the lead planner for major archaeological site management plans, such as those for Saqqara (2019) and the Giza Plateau (2002). His work in eco-tourism spans Red Sea, Fayoum, and New Valley regions in Egypt, in collaboration with international bodies like USAID, UNDP, and the Italian Cooperation. He has contributed to community-based development projects and served on advisory and scientific committees for UNESCO and IRCICA. His works cover Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, and presented research at various international forums.
